The roof repair Dallas homes need most often is not dramatic. It is a stain that slowly grows on a bedroom ceiling, a shingle that blew loose in a spring storm, or a drip that only shows up when rain comes in sideways. On the older houses in the northern half of the city, those small problems tend to start in the same few places, and finding the right one is most of the job.
We are a family-owned roofer working out of Frisco, and we drive down to Dallas for this work. Most of it is in Far North Dallas, Preston Hollow and Lake Highlands. Mike, the owner, stays involved in the jobs himself, and every repair comes with photos of what failed and what we did about it, so you never have to take our word for it.
If you want the bigger picture of how we work across the city, including replacements and storm inspections, start with our roofing contractor in Dallas page. For the general detail on leaks, flashing, vents and shingles, see our roof repair service page.

Where Older Dallas Roofs Leak
A lot of the homes we see in Lake Highlands and Preston Hollow were built in the 1950s and 1960s as one-story ranch houses, and many have grown since. Rooms get added on, and a second roofline gets tied into the first. The seam where the newer roof meets the original one is one of the most common places we find a leak on these houses.
The other usual suspect is flashing that somebody has already patched. After several reroofs over sixty or seventy years, the metal at walls and chimneys has often been sealed over with caulk rather than replaced. That holds for a while, then the sealant cracks in the heat and water finds its way back in.
- The joint where an addition's roof ties into the original house
- Flashing along walls and chimneys that was caulked instead of reset
- Vents and pipe boots added in spots the first roof never planned for
- Soft decking left behind from earlier layers of roofing
Roof Leak Repair That Starts in the Attic
We begin where you saw the water. If the attic is reachable, we look at the wood and insulation above the stain and follow the wet trail back up the slope, because the drip and the hole are rarely in the same spot. Then we go up on the roof and check that area for the actual entry point.
Once we find it, you get a photo of it before anything is touched. If the wood around it has gone soft from a slow leak, we show you that too, and it goes into the written estimate so the scope is clear before the work begins.
Hail Damage Roof Repair After a North Dallas Storm
Dallas has had more than its share of big storms. The June 2012 hailstorm hit hard along Highway 75, and the October 2019 tornado came through Preston Hollow toward Richardson. Plenty of roofs put on after those events are now old enough to start showing wear, and every spring brings a fresh round of hail across the north side of town.
Tall trees in the older neighborhoods often protect one slope and leave another fully exposed, so a roof can look fine from the front and be bruised in the back. We photograph each slope. When the damage is limited, a shingle repair may be all you need. When it covers much of the roof, we tell you that, and if you file a claim, it stays between you and your insurer while we work from the scope your adjuster approves.
Emergency Roof Repair: What to Do When Water Is Coming In
If your roof is leaking right now, stay off it, especially if it is wet or steep. Move furniture and electronics out of the way, catch the water in a bucket, and if a ceiling is bulging with water, keep people out from under it. Take pictures of the stain and anything that got wet.
Then call us. We will ask where the water is showing up and when it started, which helps us know where to look once we are out. We will be honest about when we can get down from Frisco to your part of Dallas, rather than promise a time we cannot keep.
Shingle Repair or a New Roof?
When the problem is a few lifted or broken shingles on a roof that is otherwise sound, we replace just those and seal them down. New shingles can look a shade different until the sun has had time on them, which is normal.
On a Dallas ranch house that has been patched in one place after another, though, another repair may only buy a season. If that is where your roof is, we show you the photos that tell us so and can write up both options side by side. The choice stays yours.
Why Dallas Homeowners Call Us for Repairs
- Straight about the drive. We come from Frisco and will tell you up front whether your Dallas neighborhood is one we reach.
- At home on mid-century roofs. Additions, old reroofs and caulked flashing are what we expect to find on these houses, not a surprise.
- We trace it first. The leak gets followed back to its real entry point before any shingle comes off.
- Photos and paper. You see the problem in pictures and get a written estimate before the repair starts.
