Thinking about metal roofing in San Antonio? If hail came through your part of the northeast side on September 11, 2026 and a neighbor’s roof is already being replaced, it is natural to wonder whether your next roof should be metal instead of another layer of shingles. That is a fair question, and the answer depends on the house, the budget and how long you plan to live there.
We install both metal and asphalt shingle roofs, so we have nothing to gain by steering you toward one. Mike Zhukov, who owns the company, is working San Antonio himself this month. When he or our team comes out, we look at the roof that is there now, photograph it, and then put a metal option and a shingle option on one written estimate if you want to see both.
For the wider picture of the storm and what we check on older northeast-side houses, see our roofing contractor in San Antonio page. Our metal roofing service page covers panel types, heat and hail in depth.

Thinking About Metal After the September 11 Hail
If the hail left your shingles bruised and you are headed for a replacement anyway, it makes sense to ask what you want on the house for the long run rather than simply matching what was there.
Be clear-eyed about what metal changes. It is far less likely than a shingle to crack or let water through after a hard hit, but it can still dent, and a smooth light panel shows those dimples plainly. If hail is your main reason for looking at metal, call your insurance agent and ask how your policy treats cosmetic dents before you choose. Settle that with your insurer before you sign anything.
If you do open a claim for the September damage, the claim stays between you and your insurance company. Our photos are yours to pass along to them, and on an approved claim we work from the adjuster’s approved scope.
Metal on Wilshire Terrace, Camelot II and Woodlake Homes
The northeast side has houses from several decades. Some Wilshire Terrace homes (78218) were built in the 1950s, most of Camelot II (78239) went up in the 1970s, and a good share of Woodlake (78244) is mid-1980s. On a house that age, the decking under the shingles matters as much as whatever goes on top of it.
A new metal roof needs a sound deck to fasten to. Decades of reroofing can leave boards that are soft at the eaves or patched in places, and we only find that by walking the roof. What we find goes into the photos and the estimate, so deck repair is a known line item before tear-off.
Many of these homes also picked up a back-porch cover or an added room over the years. Long, simple slopes suit metal best; a roofline broken up by additions, valleys and vents needs more custom flashing, which adds cost. We point that out on your house rather than in general.
Standing Seam Metal Roofing or Exposed-Fastener Panels
We price two kinds of metal roof. Standing seam runs in long panels from eave to ridge, joined at raised seams that hide the fasteners, so nothing pierces the surface water runs across. It is the cleaner look and the higher-end choice, and it usually tops the estimate.
Exposed-fastener panels overlap and are screwed straight through, each screw sealed by a rubber washer. They cost less and go on faster. The trade-off is upkeep: over years of heat the washers can dry out and screws can work loose, so those fasteners are worth checking through the life of the roof. For a detached garage, a shop or a tighter budget they can make good sense; on the main house, standing seam asks less of you later.
South Texas Sun, Heat and a Metal Roof
Summers here are long, and the sun works on a roof every day. A metal panel in a reflective or light factory finish sends back more of that sunlight than a dark shingle does, which can keep the attic cooler. Pick a dark color and much of that advantage goes away, so the finish deserves as much thought as the panel.
Metal also avoids the slow drying-out that turns old asphalt shingles brittle. Still, a roof surface alone will not cure a hot upstairs if the attic cannot breathe. We check attic ventilation during the inspection and tell you if it needs work, whichever material you pick.
Cost of Metal Roof Installation in San Antonio
We do not publish prices, because two houses on the same street can come out very differently. What moves the number on a metal roof installation:
- The size and pitch of the roof
- How many valleys, dormers, vents and other penetrations the panels must work around
- The condition of the decking once the old roof comes off
- Standing seam versus exposed-fastener panels, plus the finish and color you choose
Why San Antonio Homeowners Ask Us About Metal
- Metal and shingle, side by side. Because we install both, your estimate can show each option on your own northeast-side house instead of a rule of thumb.
- Honest about dents. We tell you plainly that metal can dent in big hail, so you choose it for the right reasons.
- Photos of your roof first. You see the decking, flashing and storm marks we found before anyone talks about panels or colors.
- Owner on the ground here. Mike is working San Antonio this month, and the number on this page rings our San Antonio line.
